Bust & Back Health
That burning knot in your upper back isn't your age. Two thin bra straps are hanging your whole bust from your shoulders.
If your straps leave red grooves dug into your shoulders, if a hot knot burns between your shoulder blades every time you lean over the sink, or if you've already bought the 'comfort' bra from M&S and still caught yourself hunching, read this before you decide a sore back just comes with a big bust.

You know the spot. That hard, burning knot just under your neck, right between your shoulder blades, the one you dig your thumb into while you're stood at the sink. And when you finally peel your bra off, there they are: two angry red grooves pressed into your shoulders.
So you did the sensible things. You got measured at M&S, paid for the 'minimiser' at Boots, loosened the straps, tightened the straps, and asked the GP about your back. Every one of those should have helped, and none of them stopped the burn.
This article answers one question: why does your upper back still burn and your shoulders still round forward, even in a bra that supposedly fits?

Your back burns and your shoulders roll forward, and you've stopped noticing
It starts as a tight ache across the top of your back. Then it turns into a burn that sits between your shoulder blades like a hot stone.
You catch yourself in a shop window on the high street and your shoulders are curled in, your chin pushed forward, your bust sitting lower than you remember. You stand up straight for a second. Then the weight drags you back down.
You rub the knot on the school run. You rub it in the queue at Boots. You've started to think this is simply what a big bust costs, along with the dents in your shoulders and the band that rides up your back.
It isn't. And the reason is sitting on top of your shoulders right now.
Why the minimiser, the fitting and the loosened straps all let you down
You did everything right. You got measured. You went up a cup and down a band. You bought the 'full support' bra with the padded straps and the four hooks.
And still the straps sink into the same two grooves. Still the underwire jabs your side when you bend. Still the band creeps up your back until your bust drops and your shoulders take the lot.
Here's what every one of those bras has in common: they all hang your bust from two thin strips sitting on two small points of your shoulders. A better size doesn't change that. A padded strap barely changes that. The weight still goes straight down through the same two spots.
That's not you failing at bras. That's the design failing you.

The hidden cause: your whole bust is hanging from two points
A full bust can weigh as much as a couple of bags of sugar. On a standard bra, all of that is carried by two thin straps, and those straps press down on a strip of shoulder barely wider than your finger.
Your shoulders do the only thing they can. They drop and roll forward to get out from under the pressure. Your upper back muscles then work flat out to stop you folding over, and that's the burning knot.
Meanwhile the thin band can't anchor anything, so it rides up, and the bust falls forward and pulls harder still.
Spread the same weight across wide straps, full sides and a broad back panel, and your shoulders have nothing to hunch away from. They come back.
It's not how heavy your bust is. It's how few places that weight is hanging from.

Meet ShapeChic: a bra that carries your bust instead of hanging it
The ShapeChic Original Bra is built around one idea: the weight never sits on two points.
The straps are wide and cushioned, so the load spreads across the top of your shoulder instead of slicing into it. The full sides wrap round and gather the spill under your arms, so your bust is held from the side as well as above. And one wide, smooth back panel anchors the whole thing low and flat, so nothing rides up and your back rolls are smoothed out.
There's no wire to dig. No hooks or clasps to fight with. You pull it on over your head like a vest, and the lace cups lift you from underneath.
Put it on and you can feel your shoulders drop back where they belong.

What happens to the grooves, the spill and the back rolls
Take a standard bra off and look at your shoulders: two deep red lines. Take ShapeChic off and there's nothing to see, because no single strip of strap was carrying the load.
Look at the side of your bust in a fitted top. Standard bra: a bulge spilling out under your arm. ShapeChic: the full sides have gathered it in, so the line runs clean from bust to waist.
Turn round. Standard bra: a band cutting across your back, a roll above and below. ShapeChic: one wide smooth panel, flat under a T-shirt.
Bust lifted, sides smoothed, back flattened and shoulders up. That's the look of two dress sizes smaller, without losing an ounce. And when your shoulders are no longer being dragged down, the knot finally gets the chance to let go.

Standing tall at the sink, on the school run and on a proper walk
Picture leaning over the sink and nothing burns. Picture the school run with your shoulders back and your bust where it should be, instead of curling in over your coat.
Picture a proper walk, the long one round the park you've been skipping, swinging your arms without a strap digging or a band sliding up your back.
That's the change women with a heavy bust notice first. Not just less pain. Height. You stand taller because nothing is dragging you forward. Your tops hang better. You stop tugging at yourself in shop windows.
You stop feeling like your bust is wearing you, and start feeling like yourself again.

Stop paying for two thin straps with your back
Every bra you put on that hangs your bust from two points is another round of grooves, another knot, another inch of hunch you carry around the high street. Rounded shoulders don't straighten themselves out. The longer the weight drags you forward, the more that posture becomes the one you live in.
You don't need another fitting or another minimiser. You need the weight spread.

Two thin straps versus weight spread properly
Before
- Red grooves dented into both shoulders
- Bust spilling out under your arms and back rolls above the band
- Shoulders hunched forward with a burning knot between the blades
After
- Wide cushioned straps that leave no lines
- Full sides gathering the spill and one smooth back panel flattening the rolls
- Shoulders back, standing taller, the knot finally easing
Your walk, your shoulders, your shape back
Lean over the sink without the burn. Do the school run with your head up and your bust lifted under your coat. Take the long walk round the park again and come home with nothing to rub.
What People Are Saying
“I've had grooves in my shoulders since my twenties. Honestly thought they were permanent. Wore this for a week and they've nearly gone. My husband asked if I'd lost weight.”
“38G and I was dubious about no wire. It holds me. Properly holds me. And no hooks is a godsend with my shoulder.”
“The back is the bit I love. No more roll sticking out over the band under my T-shirts. Bought the black and the nude, going back for the burgundy.”
“Took 10 days to arrive, tracked all the way, which was fine. Size up if you're between sizes, I did and it's spot on. Back's a lot less sore.”
“I didn't realise how much I'd been hunching till I caught myself in the mirror stood up straight in this. Felt a bit emotional to be honest. Like me again.”

Does it actually work on a big bust though? Every 'comfy' bra I've tried just squashes me flat and I end up with one boob each side lol
@Tracey I'm a 40H and it doesn't squash, it lifts. The sides do a lot of the work. I was sceptical too.
Is pulling it over your head a faff? I've got a dodgy shoulder
@Jo easier than hooks for me, I've got arthritis in my hands. Step into it if you prefer, mine stretches enough.
Ordered three, arrived well packed in under two weeks. The knot in my back isn't gone completely but it's a world away from what it was.
Only thing I'd say is check the size chart properly. Sent my first one back within the 30 days and swapped up, no bother at all.
