The 5 Best Bras for Older Women of 2026: The Bra Older Women Say Finally Feels Easy
Most bras for mature women make you choose: easy to put on but flat, or lifted but fiddly hooks, digging wires and thin straps. One bra gave our testers lift, a smooth back and nothing to fasten, for less per bra than any other pick.
- 25bras bought and tested
- 61women on our test panel
- 4 weeksof daily wear

The Comfort Report is published by ShapeChic, the maker of the ShapeChic™ bras ranked #1 in our guides. Scores reflect our testers’ ratings on the criteria listed in each guide. I’ve fitted more than 6,000 women in 14 years, and the women in their sixties and seventies who sit in my fitting room all say a version of the same sentence: “I just want a bra I can get on by myself that doesn’t hurt.” Not hooks she has to fumble for behind her back. Not thin straps that cut grooves into her shoulders. Not a wire stabbing her ribs within an hour.
Here’s the problem. Half the bras sold as “for mature women” are just the same old design in beige. Same hook-and-eye back. Same thin band that rolls and pushes skin into ridges. The label changed. The bra didn’t.
So we did it properly. We bought 25 best-selling wire-free and comfort bras sold in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and put them on a panel of 61 women for four weeks of daily wear: gardening, grandchildren, long car journeys, church, coffee mornings, a whole day on her feet at a family wedding. Every bra was then scored on what older women told me matters most: getting it on, how the straps feel, lift, and value.
Twenty bras didn’t make the cut. Here are the five that did, ranked, and the one our testers refused to give back.
How we tested and scored
Every finalist was worn for four weeks and scored out of 10 on four criteria. Here is exactly what we measured and what lost points.
No hooks to fasten
We timed how long each bra took to put on and take off, and asked testers how it felt with stiff shoulders or sore fingers. Back hooks, fiddly clasps and anything that needed a second pair of hands lost points.
Wide comfy straps
We checked shoulders for red grooves after eight hours and noted every strap that slipped, dug or needed hitching. Thin straps, padded straps that bunched and bands that rolled lost points.
Gentle lift
We photographed each tester side-on in her own bra and in each finalist, and checked the back under a fitted top. Wires that poked, flattening, sag by afternoon and visible back bulges lost points.
Value
We worked out the real price per bra at today’s prices, then weighed it against how each bra held up after four weeks of washing. Expensive single bras and bras that stretched or pilled lost points.

ShapeChic™ Original Bra
Best for: women who want lift and comfort with nothing to fasten

ShapeChic was the only bra in our test to score above 9 on every single criterion. Not just comfortable. Not just easy. It gave our testers lift, a smooth back and wide soft straps, with nothing to hook, all in one bra.
The secret is the build. There are no hooks and no clasps at all. It goes on over your head like a soft top. Instead of a thin band that digs in and pushes skin into rolls, one wide panel sweeps across the back, and side panels bring you in and up without a wire anywhere near your ribs.
The difference showed in our numbers. Testers put it on in under five seconds, and the women on our panel with stiff shoulders said it was the first bra in years they didn’t have to wrestle with. In our side-on photos it lifted the bust visibly higher than testers’ own bras, and under fitted tops the back stayed smooth from morning to evening.
What it doesn’t have: hooks, wires, adjustable sliders to fiddle with or padding that shifts in the wash. The soft nylon-spandex fabric with its sunburst lace front simply stretches to you and breathes all day.
It comes in a full size range, and today it’s on Buy 1, Get 2 Free, which makes it the cheapest bra per piece on this list by a distance. With more than 16,500 reviews averaging 4.92 out of 5, it’s no secret. The offer has sold out before, so if you want it, don’t wait.
“I timed it. Three seconds to get on, and I didn’t once reach behind my back. By the end of the first week I’d stopped thinking about my bra at all.”

Playtex 18 Hour Ultimate Shoulder Comfort Wirefree Bra
Best for: a familiar everyday staple

Playtex knows straps. The wide, cushioned straps on the 18 Hour were the closest to ShapeChic’s in our shoulder checks, and the firm side support held testers in well. It’s a durable staple, and after four weeks of washing it still looked new.
The problem is everything else. It still fastens with hooks at the back, which our testers with stiff shoulders hated, and the back band left a visible line under fitted tops. Under thin fabric it looked bulky, and several testers called the shape matronly.
What we loved
- Wide, cushioned straps
- Strong side support
- Very durable
Where it fell short
- Hook back band, hard with stiff shoulders
- Bulky and matronly under thin clothes
- Costs more per bra than today’s #1 deal
Bottom line: Great straps, but the hooks and bulk keep it at #2.
Compare with our #1 pickTriumph Doreen Non-Wired Bra
Best for: heavy busts who like a classic shape

The Doreen has been a heavy-bust favourite for decades, and it earns it. The lift is genuinely strong for a bra with no wire, and the construction lasts and lasts.
But the shape is a throwback: pointed, seamed cups that showed through fitted tops. The fabric felt stiff for the first week, and the hook-and-eye back is exactly what older women told us they want to stop struggling with.
What we loved
- Excellent wire-free lift
- Built to last
- Good for heavy busts
Where it fell short
- Pointed retro shape shows under tops
- Hook-and-eye back fastening
- Costs more per bra than today’s #1 deal
Bottom line: Lift that works, in a shape and fastening that feel decades old.
Compare with our #1 pickM&S Flexifit Non-Wired Bra
Best for: a soft, smooth everyday bra

The Flexifit is lovely against the skin, and its wide back wings gave one of the smoother backs in our test. It’s fair value on the high street.
Then the niggles. The band ran small, so several testers felt it squeeze by the afternoon. Straps slipped off sloping shoulders, and the padding felt bulky to some. The lift was light, and it still needed fastening at the back.
What we loved
- Smooth back
- Very soft fabric
- Good value
Where it fell short
- Band runs small
- Straps slip
- Costs more per bra than today’s #1 deal
Bottom line: Soft and smooth, but slipping straps and light lift hold it back.
Compare with our #1 pickBali Comfort Revolution Wirefree Bra
Best for: smaller busts who want softness

The Comfort Revolution lives up to its name for softness. The stretchy cups and smooth sides made it pleasant to wear around the house.
But fuller-busted testers found the lift too limited, and by afternoon they were sagging. It still has a hook back band, and the fabric started to pill within our four weeks.
What we loved
- Very soft cups
- Smooth at the sides
- Comfortable for lounging
Where it fell short
- Limited lift for fuller busts
- Hook back band and pilling fabric
- Costs more per bra than today’s #1 deal
Bottom line: Comfortable, but not enough lift or ease to rank higher.
Compare with our #1 pickWhat to look for in a bra for older women
After 14 years of fittings, these are the five things that make a bra easy and comfortable for life after 60. Only one bra in our test had all five.
Nothing to fasten
Hooks behind your back get harder with every year. A true pull-on bra goes on over your head with no reaching and no fumbling.
Wide, soft straps
Wide straps spread the weight so they don’t cut grooves into your shoulders. Soft and cushioned beats thin and stiff every time.
Lift without a wire
Look for side panels that bring you in and up. You get shape and lift with nothing poking your ribs.
One smooth back panel
A wide back panel stops the rolls a thin band pushes up, so fitted tops lie smoothly.
Real value per bra
Work out the price per bra, not per pack. A multi-buy offer on a bra that lasts beats one expensive bra every time.
What readers say about ShapeChic
Real feedback from women who switched.
No more hooks
Arthritis in my shoulders made bras a misery. This one I pull on myself in seconds. I cried a little, honestly.
Shoulders finally rested
Fifty years of red grooves in my shoulders. These wide straps don’t dig at all. I’ve ordered more colours.
Lifted without the wire
I thought soft bras meant saggy. My blouses sit higher and I look so much neater.
Back looks smooth
No more bulges under my cardigan. My daughter asked if I’d lost weight.
Pretty too
Finally something with lace that doesn’t look like hospital wear. Came tracked and beautifully packed.
Forgot I had it on
Wore it all day at my granddaughter’s christening. Not one tug or adjustment.

Our verdict: the best bra for older women in 2026

After four weeks, 25 bras and 61 testers, one bra did what older women have asked me for, fitting after fitting: slip on easily, lift gently, then disappear. ShapeChic was the only bra to score above 9 on every criterion.
It has no hooks to struggle with, straps that don’t dig, lift without a wire and a back that stays smooth under your favourite tops. With today’s Buy 1, Get 2 Free offer, it’s also the best value on the list.
